Lithuania powers through 2-0

By: j | September 10th, 2008 | 3 Comments »

Lithuania continued its stellar week of performance, defeating Austria today 2-0 on the strength of a brace by Livorno’s Tomas Danilevičius.

The match was a very tight wide open affair with numerous opportunities on either side of the pitch, however it remained scoreless at the break. At the fifty-second minute Tomas Danilevičius re-directed Marius Stankevicius’s long range effort to give Lithuania a 1-0 lead. Only six minutes later a Deividas Cesnauskis cross to the Livorno man netted Lithuania’s second goal. While Austria had numerous opportunities to score, each fell short.

Karel Brückner leads Austria against the Faroe Islands on October 11 in Vienna.

What else can you say after a stunning 3-1 victory over France? Austria dominated most of the match and left the former World Champions grasping for excuses. Yet there are no excuses, they were simply out-played and out-coached by a team that wanted to win more. I should also like to state, I say this with tremendous respect for Les ... [read]
