solid performance

On the heels of the 1-1 draw today against Nigeria you have to be highly optimistic of overall play. While some supposed “fan” groups have made disparaging comments of the team, suggesting embarrassing performance, Austria played nothing like the worlds 101st ranked team. With the Nigerian team packed with top-flight players, the ability to match team speed and athleticism was definitely a plus and a further sign of overall preparedness.

Roman Kienast netted the first goal at the twelve minute mark only to see the goal advantage draw back with Nigeria’s Kalu Uche goal seven minutes later. After moving away from the 3-5-2 formation at the half and bringing on Erwin “The Hoff” Hoffer at the half, they came close to taking the lead as his shot clanged off the post.

Wednesday is the final cut-down day for Coach Hickersberger and because of injuries, goalkeeper Ramazan Ozcan has been recalled.
