Red Bull Salzburg v Steaua Bucharest friendly

July 3rd, 2008 | By: j | 2 Comments »

Austrian national-team member Ronald Gërçaliu will see his first action for Red Bull Salzburg tomorrow as they face Steaua Bucharest in a friendly. In-fact this is the 22 year-old defender’s second stint with the team as he played two matches with them in 2006 before heading to Sturm Graz and Austria Wien. The Red Bull team is packed with a solid selection of international pedigree as he is joining, Austrian capped teammates René Aufhauser, Christoph Leitgeb and Marc Janko, Switzerland’s Johan Vonlanthen, Czech Republic’s Karel Piták, Japan’s Tsuneyasu Miyamoto, Serbia’s Saša Ilić, Croatia’s U-21 Manuel Pamić and most notably Croatian captain Niko Kovač.

Steaua Bucharest possesses a wealth of talent within that figure heavily in the national team (Mirel Rădoi, Sorin Ghionea, Dorin Goian, Bănel Nicoliţă, Nicolae Dică) development and are headed to next seasons Champions League. What makes this even better for Football fans is that this is a free match to attend, so if you’re near Salzburg get over to EM Stadion (Red Bull Arena) tomorrow evening!

Red Bull Salzburg has killed Austria Salzburg. This was not a very polite act.

I have to say I had it in the back of my head that Co Adriaanse was going to shake-up the league and he certainly did that with the first match. The wave of piercing attacks out of a 4-3-3 was brilliant and of course had Ajax / Netherlands written all over it. I apologize I had a rather long post on opening matches and I gather they weren’t posted. I’m going to see about reposting. Thanks
