player profile Emanuel Pogatetz

At the core of the Austrian defense is the fiery Emanuel “Mad Dog” Pogatetz. Emanuel was a late addition to the squad as he was previously thought to be unavailable given a two-match suspension for a “indiscretion” however because of a rule change he was able to serve the suspension through the recent friendlies.

For those familiar with the play of the Graz native, the first thing that comes to mind is his non-stop intensity, a never say die attitude and an ability to play through incredible pain. The Middlesbrough defender will be a critical component in the back line as he is likely to be paired with and György Garics, Sebastian Prödl and Martin Stranzl.

While he does not get the attention he deserves, he is easily one of the most influential players on their team in the tournament. Emanuel is a tremendous team leader who speaks through action and has a dynamic positive impact upon the team. “Your Mad Dog”, as he likes to sign-off on his own blog, will play with an extra intensity in playing for his homeland.
