congratulations Germany!

Prior to my upcoming (and long-winded) post I wanted to congratulate Germany on today’s 1-0 victory. I look forward to the German team coming together as they head towards their quarter-final tussle against Portugal.

To the Austrian team you have played with a noble spirit and against all odds, fought the great fight. I take great pride in today’s match, the attacking spirit of Coach Hickersberger was one few expected but will never be forgotten. It was a brilliant point in the nations sporting history and a catalyst for a great future that ÖFB and Coach Hickersberger can be proud of. Thank you.

Conceding one goal against the Germans is respectable. I think you guys should be proud.

Julien – I couldn’t agree more and appreciate your comments. I was extremely proud of how Coach Hickersberger used a more aggressive formation and really went all out for the victory. It was a great statement and one that every supporter can be proud of.

Austria played a great game. Maybe players like Harnik can add the needed quality up front when they get older.

you know I don;t even know why people were really taking the shit out of Austria before the tournament? They’ve got several good keepers, a solid defence with players at clubs like Middlesbrough, Werder Bremen and Napoli, a good midfield with Ivanschitz, the fairly promising young Harnik, an experienced Aufhauser, a techincally excellent Vastic and certainly not a bad attack with Linz and Erwin Hoffer looking pretty good. Just a shame Paul Scharner refuses to play and the Austrians might have got another few points.
